Haunted. Haunting. Redeemed.
When Lisa Harbinger takes a job as nanny to a prestigious Australian family, she gets more than she bargained for: two spoilt children, vengeful ghosts, a long-unsolved mystery and a blazing passion she and her enigmatic boss are unable to deny.

Excerpt

“He fell in love with someone else,” Richard repeated thoughtfully. “Was she a friend of yours?”
It must be time to confess. What he would think of me after that, I didn’t dare consider. “Actually, she was a he. Simon fell in love with Robert and finally admitted he was gay.”
Richard’s eyebrows shot up. “Married to someone as lovely and intelligent as you? That’s almost impossible to believe.”
Lovely? Intelligent? Not knowing how to respond to these compliments I said quickly, “I think Simon always knew he was gay. Even when he married me, he was just in denial. I was too dumb to wake up to it.”
“When you did realise, how did it make you feel?”
“Angry. Miserable. Then totally stupid,” I answered. “There were so many hints, but I kept on ignoring them.” Then I dared to venture, as the atmosphere between us was definitely pulsing, “He was never interested in sex.”
His face blank, Richard turned to the next page of the book we were sharing, then another. In the pause I heard an owl hoot and the wind rustle a branch against the window.
At last he put down the book. “Never interested in sex. That mean you’re not? Let’s find out.” With this, he placed one arm around my waist and with the other hand tilted my head so I faced him. Then he carefully and delicately placed his mouth over mine.

My Thoughts on Penelope’s Ghost by Goldie Alexander

This was a really good book. I really liked all the storylines, the romance and the characters...

The Characters: I liked how they fitted so well into the story. At the start, I thought that Lisa's depression was going to consumed all the story and turned it into a boring experience, but it wasn't like that at all, in fact, it enriched her character even more! She is not perfect, she needed to grow up so much but as the book progressed, so did she and in the end, she overcame her issues and that's all we can ask for the main character. However, even when I liked her faced the world, I struggled with they way she saw herself.

My favorite characters were the children, so hilarious. I loved them and I think that's what made this book such a lovely peace. We can see how beautiful is to be a child but also the sorrow and sadness when you don't get the parents that you need. I'm happy that they found on Lisa a role model and a person who love them and give them attension and confort. It was a beautiful relationship between the three of them an my favorite part of the entire book.

The Romance: The romance in this book was pretty standar for me, nothing much to highlight. It wasn't like it bored me but, side by side with the love story about the childrens and the Nanny, it was lost in the novel. Also, I think it was rushed and a litte bit unbeleavable.

The Mistery: The suspense was a little bit weak and this is the reason why I give it 4 literary hearts. I was hoping for a really thrilling storyline, to be scared (even if I don't usually like horror), after all, it promised a ghost, but it didn't work for me. Penelope itself was left behind among every other thing happening and Lisa's reseach wasn't enough, she could had taken more effort in solving the mystery.

I can can be content with the romance because everything else was great (plot development, the twist, and the characters) but the mistery. It was what I was looking for, the reason why I pick up the book in the firts place, yet it didn't delivered.

Overall... Penelope’s Ghost by Goldie Alexander was a great and entertained read. It presented a lovely and beautiful story about the most innocent and pure of loves: the love of a child; plus so many life lessons. I fully recommend it.

I give it 4 hearts
