5 common blogs mistakes

Tener un blog en un alojado en un Host gratuito no es una excusa para que sea feo o poco apropiado para los lectores. Hay muchos servicios para crear páginas web o blogs gratuitos, las más utilizadas son Blogger y Wordpress, que pueden personalizarse para verse hermosos. La primera, por lo general, la utilizan los más novatos (aunque es mi favorita), mientras que la segunda es más utilizada por expertos y la mayoría de los sitios grandes y exitosos son alojados allí.  En primer lugar, déjenme aclararles algo, Blogger tiene la mala reputación (a mi parecer dada por los más snobs de la web) de ser una plataforma obsoleta una vez que llegas a cierto nivel y que no ofrece las libertades que estas personas necesitan. A mi parecer, no hay nada malo en ella, claro que no se puede negar que un blog en Wordpress es genial una vez que se trabaja lo suficiente. Pero para aquellos que no tienen para gastar en todos los plugins, plantillas y demás, Blogger es siempre una buena opción, más este pertenece a Google por lo que siempre le dan prioridad en los buscadores. Dejando eso de lado, tener blogs gratuitos en cualquiera de estas plataformas, no es una excusa para tener un sitio feo que les derrita las retinas a todos sus valientes visitantes. Como comunicadora social y blogger desde hace siete años, tengo cierto conocimiento en lo que respecta la estética grafica que se necesita en la web, además que como persona y lectora me molesta mucho entrar a blogs y encontrarme lugares horribles, mal organizados y con errores estéticos graves. Es por ello, que les presento a continuación las 5 características más importantes de una página web o blog y aquellas en la que las personas se equivocan constantemente. Plantillas Las plataformas gratuitas para blogs cuentan, por lo general, con plantillas predeterminadas que puedes personalizar con mejor te parezca. Estas son como la piel de nuestros blogs que contiene el fondo, tipografías, colores, y demás. Muchos novatos, y no tan novatos, utilizan estas plantillas que son realmente feas, o no las personalizan de forma correcta.  Otro error bastante común es utilizar plantillas que no son responsive (que se pueden ver en todos los dispositivos), y que cargan demasiado lento. Cuando una página web no carga rápido los lectores simplemente se van. Pero hay una solución para ello, pues existen un montón de bancos virtuales con miles de plantillas gratuitas que se pueden utilizar para engalanar nuestros sitios, son hermosas, fáciles de personalizar y van acorde con las últimas tendencias.  Mi banco favorito es soratemplates.com Color de Fondo Este es quizás el peor error y el más repetitivo de todos, los blogueros tienden a colocar los fondos en colores oscuros, especialmente el negro. Es llamativo, no se puede negar eso pero déjenme explicarles que el ojo humano se cansa cuando eso ocurre, ya que la vista se esfuerza más de lo normal para poder leer las palabras. Es por eso que es mejor utilizar fondos blancos (que son estéticamente los mejores) o en colores realmente claros, sino estarás haciéndole un gran daño a la salud de todos tus lectores.

Having a blog on a Free Hosting isn’t an excuse for it to be ugly or inappropriate for readers. There’re many platforms to create free websites or blogs, the most used are Blogger and Wordpress, which can be customized to look beautiful. The first one is usually used by the newbies (although it’s my favorite), while the second is more used by experts and most of the successful sites out there are hosted on Wordpress. First of all, let me clarify something, Blogger has the bad reputation (in my opinion given by the most snobs on the web) to be an obsolete platform once you reach a certain level and doesn’t offer the freedoms these people need. In my opinion, there’s nothing wrong with it, of course, you can’t deny that a blog on Wordpress is great once you work it hard enough. But for those who don’t have the money to spend on all the plugins, templates and more (like me), Blogger is always a good option, plus this belongs to Google so they always give it a priority in search engines. Leaving that aside, having free blogs on any of these platforms isn’t an excuse to have an ugly site that melts the eyes of all the brave visitors that enter your site. As a mass media communicator and blogger for seven years, I have some knowledge in regards to the graphic aesthetics that is needed on the web, in addition as a person with eyes and reader, it bothers me a lot to visit blogs and find horrible places, poorly organized and with some serious aesthetic issues. That’s why I present below the 5 most important characteristics of a website or blog and those which people constantly got wrong. Templates Free blogging platforms usually have default templates that you can customize as you see fit. These are like the skin of our blogs that contains the background, fonts, colors, and so on. Many newbies and not so newbies use these templates that are really ugly or don’t customize them correctly. Another fairly common mistake is to use templates that aren’t responsive (which can be viewed on all devices), and which load too slowly. When a website doesn’t load fast enough readers simply leave. But there’s a solution for this because there are a lot of virtual banks with thousands of free templates that can be used to decorate our sites; those are beautiful, easy to customize and go according to the latest trends. It's eye-catching, you can’t deny that, but let me explain to you that the human eye gets tired of it really quickly because it tries harder than normal to read the words. That’s why it’s better to use white backgrounds (which are aesthetically the best) or really light colors, otherwise, you’ll be doing a great harm to the health of all your readers.

Tipografías Para aquellos que no saben qué es esto, la tipografía es el término correcto para llamar a las letras, que se refiere a la forma de esta, el grosor, el tamaño, el espacio entre letras y entre palabras, y mucho más. Adjuntado a los fondos oscuros se utilizan tipografías en colores claros pero esto le hace daño a la vista, además las utilizan erróneamente solo porque se ven bonitas o cool. Existe una característica importante que es el serif, que consiste en ese rabito que le sale a cada letra. Un dato importante a tener en cuenta que las tipografías con serif son mejores para los títulos, mientras que las san-serif (sin el rabito) se utilizan para los textos, eso es porque permite que se lea mejor. No obstante, esto no es una regla del todo, pues también se pueden utilizar tipografías con serif para los textos pero estas no pueden ser muy llamativos. Al mismo tiempo, es mejor que las tipografías sin-serif del texto no sean muy delgadas porque también forzarían demasiado la vista. Imágenes La mayoría de las personas somos visuales y por ello tener buenas imágenes es primordial para que nuestro blog sea atractivo. Existen miles de bancos de imágenes gratuitos y libres de derechos de autor en las que se pueden pedir prestadas imágenes y fotografías hermosas para acompañar nuestros post o gráficos relevantes en el blog. An important fact to note is that serif fonts are better for titles, while san-serif (without the line) are used for texts, that's because it allows a better read. However, this isn’t a rule per se, as you can also use serif fonts for texts but these can’t be very flashy. At the same time, it’s better if san-serif fonts in the text aren’t too thin because they would also force the eyes too much. Images Most people are visual and therefore have good images is essential to make our blog attractive. An important fact is to try to use all the images that maintain the same aesthetics, similar lighting, and the same color palette, so our site looks blend. About me / Contact pages It’s perhaps a more personal feature but it has a great weight in many people. When some of us visit a site we want to know the person behind the blog or website, so we always check the About Me page, if it isn’t found, it’s very likely that many won’t even try to return. At the same time, the contact page is of the utmost importance because so people of interest can reach you for anything of value, and your readers can always have something meaningful to tell you in private.
