Synopsis:
The Fates are cackling their bony asses off…
It’s been a year since Seth made the deal with the gods that pledged his life to them. And so far, the jobs they’ve given him have been violent and bloody–which is kind of all right with him. But now Apollo has something else in mind for Seth. He’s got to play protector while keeping his hands and fingers off, and for someone who really has a problem with restraint, this new assignment might be the most challenging yet.
Josie has no idea what this crazy hot guy’s deal might be, but it’s a good bet that his arrival means the new life she started after leaving home is about to be thrown into an Olympian-sized blender turned up to puree. Either Josie is going insane or a nightmare straight out of ancient myth is gunning for her.
But it might be the unlikely attraction simmering between her and the golden-eyed, secret-keeping Seth that may prove to be the most dangerous thing of all.
Because history has once again been flipped to repeat.
Book 1 in the new adult paranormal TITAN series, spin-off to the best selling COVENANT series.
My Thoughts
NOTE: This review contains spoilers from the previous book series, COVENANT, since this is the spinoff of it. I recommend that you read that series before getting into this one; of course, you can find [in this book] an explanation of what happened before [in that series]. But if you plan to read Covenant series AFTER this book, I recommend you not to. Beware yourself.
After the Covenant Red-A-Thon, I wanted to read this book so badly because Jessica and Valerie from Stuck In Books already read it and they were so excited about it. I know there are so many fans of Seth out there, but I never was one of them, even after the end of the Covenant series, which I think that it was a very noble act of him. I never was very fond of Seth because all the things that he did but I had an open mind about what he could accomplish in this book. And glad I did.
The Return is a very catching title cause, is kind of fitting but not very much original, though it said was this book is all about, Seth is back. It’s about a year since the battle at the Catskill and Alex & Aiden’s story ended, Seth is now the bitch of the Gods (especially Apollo’s) and he turned into a bloodthirsty executer of the traitors that helped Ares bring down the Olympus. But after Apollo sends him to a completely different mission to babysitting a mystery girl, everything changed for him.
Read another book written by Jennifer L. Armentrout is always an amazing ride for me because she is wonderful creating and giving life to her characters. I couldn’t ask more from this new Titan’s novel, she nailed it and makes me love Seth when I never have given him a second thought. Each page was an entertaining and emotional rollercoaster; I couldn’t stop reading for one minute because everything was so exciting.
Seth has changed so much since the end of Sentinel, he’s bitter and regrets the things he made; he is resigned to his fate with the Gods and thinks that he’s a monster that deserves what he got. Though I believe that he deserves a little of punishment for the choices he made I also think that he judges himself too harshly because he was tempted for Lucian and Ares into the whole family thing, it wasn’t all his fault. I felt for him and connected in a way that I haven’t before; I felt he sorrow and sadness and I wish for him a better life and a way to skip the destiny at the Underworld.
By other hands, I quite felt a little of angry about JB be compare to Alex relentlessly, I understand it but I don’t like it. I think that I need to wait until the next book to make my mind about if JB and Seth should be together because now, I think that Seth is still into Alex and he needs to get over her to truly commit to JB because, for right now, their love seems fake to me. Though, I like Josie personality; like how she embraces this new world and it was also refreshing to read because in the previous book series everybody knew their roles in Covenant, which is not the case here.
I like how Seth described Josie once (one of those times he compared her with Alex), he said that she was mentally brave as Alex was physically brave, I love he said that because she was. She took everything with so much courage and it wasn’t unreal; I would have done the same, I would have the same reactions. She lost few people, she felt helpless couples of time and even so, she put it up and embraces this new world.
The plot is awesome as well, I mean when Jen hasn't created a wonderful plot? It something unlike her to gives us a trashy argument. Though, when Sentinel ended (which have been my favorite series’ ending EVER) I felt that how the war ended was a HUGE decision and very risky. I couldn’t speak about it in the review of Sentinel because I would have spoiled everybody but I saw like eliminating Ares will shake the Olympus since it always has been 12 Olympians. I get what Jen was trying to make and even it fitted into the plot but I can’t shake the feeling that it was too risky to pull it off.
Anyway, the book is done and the story continuous, now it’s just time to see how Seth and JB will improve their fate. And I can’t wait for it.
Overall, I like this book so much. I have an open mind about what could happen and I so glad I did because Jen didn’t let me down. I can say now that I’m a fan of Seth just like any other of “his fan club”. I recommend the book to anyone who likes the Covenant series, likes a love story, a redemption tale, a lover of great characters and, of course, Greek mythology.

The Return by @JLArmentrout is one of the best books of her! Witty, sexy & fun. Now I'm fan of Seth even when I wasn't in Covenant series.
