My Thoughts

Young Adult Fantasy is a genre of wonders; after every page, you can find an otherworldly adventure and the most incredible landscapes out of your imagination. I was introduced to the genre in January last year by a retelling of Beauty and the Beast that captivated me with its beautiful prose, characters, and narrative. Today, I’m looking for the most outstanding fantasy stories to delight myself with the genre I am beginning to discover and love.

All the Stars and Teeth is one of these new books I discovered, which encouraged me to continue reading. This particular adventure is as if Percy Jackson and The Sea of Monsters (the book, because it has more blood, monsters, and action in general) meet the Princess Diaries 2 (the movie) to have a tea party with Pirates of the Caribbean: On Strange Tides (really, any of the movies in this series works but this is one featuring mermaids), wrapped in a fantasy package called Adalyn Grace and you have this book.

Mi Opinión

YA Fantasy, un género de maravillas, donde a cada vuelta puedes encontrar las más impresionantes aventuras y los más increíbles paisajes fuera de tu imaginación. Mi relación con este género no es muy larga, de hecho, se remonta a un retelling de La Bella y La Bestia, por allá por Enero del año pasado que me cautivo con su hermosa prosa, personajes e historia. Hoy busco los más interesantes cuentos fantásticos para deleitarme con este nuevo género que estoy empezando a descubrir y amar.

All the Stars and Teeth es uno de estos nuevos libros que voy descubriendo de vez en cuando y que me animan a seguir leyendo. En esta particular aventura pienso que se trata de algo parecido a que Percy Jackson y El Mar de los Mostruos (el libro, porque tiene más sangre, mostros y acción en general) se reúne con Diario de Una Princesa 2 (la película) para tener una fiesta de té con Piratas del Caribe Navegando en Aguas Misteriosas (realmente, cualquiera de las películas de esta serie funciona pero aquí es donde salen las sirenas), envuelto en un paquete fantasioso que se hacer llamar Adalyn Grace y tienes como resultado este libro. Honestamente, es la mejor descripción que puedo dar de ATSAT.

This debut novel exceeded my expectations. The world introduced, the characters' development, and the intriguing plot created one of the most exciting stories I read in a while, which I want more from. Amora understood her role as the only hope for her people. I liked her resilience, determination to do good despite her limitations, and that she was still compassionate and kind no matter how difficult the situations were.

I am happy that the author didn’t shy away from showing blood, death, and frightening moments while giving us action and even sensuality. My only problem with this book is that the last quarter of it was not as spectacular as the beginning because the dynamism and fluidity with which it started deteriorated at the end. The final battle didn’t live up to expectations.

Esta novela debut realmente superó mis expectativas. El mundo que se abre con ella, los personajes y la interesante trama crearon de esta una emocionante aventura de la cual quiero más. Amora está consciente de su rol y tiene en cuenta que es la única esperanza para su pueblo, y me gusta que lucha por ello, que se levanta sin importar cuantas veces se cae, que a pesar de sus limitaciones aún es compasiva y desea encarecidamente poder ayudar a los suyos.

Me hace muy feliz que la autora no se cohíba de mostrar sangre, muerte y momentos escalofriantes, que a su vez nos regale acción e incluso sensualidad. Mi único problema con este libro es que se sintió como una bajada al último cuarto de la historia, pues, el dinamismo y la fluidez con la que se empezó se deterioraron al finalizar. En mi opinión, la batalla final no estuvo a la altura de lo que se había prometido y me dejo decepcionada.

Overall, All The Stars and Teeth is a solid debut worth reading. While things may get a little boring at the end, it still has the potential to become a bestseller solely on its narrative, complex world, and endearing characters. I can't wait for the second part of this duology and know how everything turns out for our heroes.

En general, creo que All The Stars and Teeth es un debut sólido que merece la pena leer. Si bien al finalizar las cosas se tornar un poco aburridas, en mi opinión, todavía tiene el potencial de convertirse en uno de esos libros que la gente afora. No puedo esperar para la segunda parte de este dúo y saber cómo resultá todo para nuestros héroes.
