#BookReview: You're The One That I Want by Giovanna Fletcher (@mrsgifletcher)

Synopsis

Maddy, dressed in white, stands at the back of the church. At the end of the aisle is Rob - the man she's about to marry. Next to Rob is Ben - best man and the best friend any two people ever had.

And that's the problem.

Because if it wasn't Rob waiting for her at the altar, there's a strong chance it would be Ben. Loyal and sensitive Ben has always kept his feelings to himself, but if he turned round and told Maddy she was making a mistake, would she listen? And would he be right?

Best friends since childhood, Maddy, Ben and Rob thought their bond was unbreakable. But love changes everything. Maddy has a choice to make but will she choose wisely? Her heart, and the hearts of the two best men she knows, depend on it...

My Thoughts

When I read Billy and Me, I was so impress that Giovanna was so good writer; I thought that just as any celebrity, she would use a ghostwriter and take the credit for the work. I mean she was kind of a celebrity thanks to her husband, her vlogs and her goofy personality, but I never expect that she could be such good writer, even knowing that she was a freelance journalist. Billy and Me won a spot in my little romantic heart and I couldn’t ask for more in You’re The One I Want.

You’re The One I Want tells the story of how Maddie has to chose between the two men that have been with her in the bad and the good moments of her life, her two biggest loves, Robert and Ben. You see, these guys have been friends since they’re in toddles, their moms are very close and they spend lot of time together as they lived in the same street. When Maddie arrived to the school she became very good friend of both and the three of them develop a strong bond that goes through long years. Then, they grew up and romance started inside the group, Maddie and Robert became a couple, while Ben developed feelings for Maddie that he never dared to say a loud afraid to destroy their friendship. Maddie eventually found out about Ben’s feelings and, now, on the verge of her wedding with Robert, she find herself wondering if she’s making the right decision or if she’s willing to run away with her other best friend.

This book is bittersweet. I really didn’t like Maddie, and I felt that she made quite of mistakes through her life, but at the same time I’m understand her position and her fear to hurt Robert. I also hated Robert at the beginning of the book, because he was portrayed like a asshole who loves each girl attention he possibly could find, I can't denied that he was always a good friend for Maddie and Ben, but I knew that he would screw it up at some point. But the most important thing here is that I love Ben so much, especially since the book was split between his and Maddie’s POV. He was kind, a perfect gentleman, a good friend, a proper man who cares about the women he dated, he was perfect and very much broken.

I was so angry with Maddie for hurting him so much when he was so in love of her since he saw her for the very first time; I also hate Robert for take the lead to ask Maddie out before Ben could even take a step to get her. It was so sad, so heartbreaking. But that’s what exactly I expected from Giovanna, a proper sad story to wipe my eyes out with so much lovely pain. Mrs. Fletcher has the beautiful particularity to engage the reader with a perfectly made plot; her writing style is clean, easy and perfect to take the reader into a journey full of emotions. I, of course, was left me waiting for more of her lovely books, because I can’t have enough of her.

Overall, this was a perfect book to go with a lovely coffee and cupcake afternoon, because we’re going to need something sweet to go alone with the heartbreak we’re sure going to get. I have to admit that I never was sure about if Maddie and Ben should be together, I never take a side on that plot through the novel, so I let that Giovanna made the decision for me, and I have to say that I’m happy with it. I really recommend this book, isn’t as perfect as Billy and Me, but it does still have the magic of a lovely strong romance novel.

I love Penguin books covers, they're marvelous, so pretty that compells me to read. Check this book cover of You're The One That I Want of, which I believe, is the Turkish edition. I LOVE it!
